The Board of Trustees of the Albert Ellis Institute announced the establishment of the Diplomate in Rational Emotive & Cognitive Behavior Therapy to recognize mental health professionals who have attained preeminence in their field and who command the highest respect of their peers.
The Diplomate program will be directed by an independent committee of the Institute’s Board and will review the qualifications of prospective Diplomates and vote on extension of membership to qualified candidates. At its first meeting, the Diplomate committee extended membership to Windy Dryden, Ph.D., and Daniel David, Ph.D., who will join the founding Diplomates – Raymond DiGiuseppe, Ph.D., Ann Vernon, Ph.D., Kristene Doyle,Ph.D. and James McMahon, Ph.D. Dr. DiGiuseppe serves as Chair of the Diplomate Committee.
Dr. Dryden is an internationally acclaimed author and editor of over 170 books and is Professor of Psychotherapeutic Studies at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He currently edits the Journal of Rational-Emotive and Cognitive-Behavior Therapy.
Daniel David, Ph.D., is the ”Aaron T. Beck” Professor of clinical cognitive sciences at Babeş-Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania, one of the largest and most prestigious academic institutions in Eastern and Central Europe. His research is focused on the role of cognitive mechanisms, both explicit (e.g., autobiographical memory) and implicit (e.g., implicit memory; priming) in generating subjective/emotional, behavioral, and psycho-physiological human responses, more specifically, on the role of (a) rational/functional and irrational/dysfunctional beliefs and (b) response hopes and/or expectancies on various psychological and medical outcomes related to cancer and mental health.
